What do other people have to say about the Philadelphia literary scene? Check out this Ploughshares blog at http://blog.pshares.org/2012/07/04/literary-boroughs-7-philadelphia-pennsylvania/#comment-55118

While I find the resource great, there are a lot of other terrific Philadelphia writers out there who are not mentioned. Hmmm… maybe we should brainstorm on our favorites. Stay tuned!

  1. Thanks for sharing, Kelly. I am glad that the article mentions Rosemont–I think they are really offering an interesting alternative, creating their own space out there as far as writing programs. And I appreciate them mentioning Sonia Sanchez prominently, also. The “under the radar” type events or workshops naturally might not appear in Ploughshares. It’s that quandary…it’s cool to be underground, but you want to reach a big audience also. At one of our Week of Writing panels at Drexel this year, some of the area writers were characterizing the Phila. crowd (as in audience, readers, and writers) as supportive, honest, criticial in a positive way, and open to many styles and new voices.
